Itinerary description
The entrance of Nagarjun national park/forest reserve is 1 hr walk from Thamel thru dusty streets. Wear a mask if you walk or else take a cab which cost about NPR250. It is a 1hr40min walk from the entrance to the summit for a distance of 3.65km according to my watch. The entrance fee is NPR1000 per pax for foreigner like me. They may want you to use their guide @ NPR1500. After some talking, they allow me to go without one.
The trail is clear from the entrance to the summit. It is a very pleasant walk thru the shady trees. Plenty of clean oxygen which is rare in Thamel. Some stretches of the trails are covered by pine leaves as though you are walking on carpets.
A shrine to Guru Rinpoche (莲花生) is at the top of the hill. It was having some kind of praying ceremony when I was there.
It is a great escape from the dusty and noisy Thamel.
