Itinerary description
It is situated 150 kilometres (93 mi) north of the city of Abbottabad in Balakot Tehsil of Mansehra District.
From Mansehra, crossing Shinkiari, you reach Munda Gacha village.
A scenic and mesmerizing village from where a jeep ride of 3 kilometers takes you to the trek's starting point.
There are several and different routes that reach MKM summit. Even from Munda Gacha you can take two routes to reach Dor. A point where two water streams meet to form Siran River.
From Dor, there are several ways to the Khori or Gali base camps.
From Gali, however there is one straight route to reach MKM summit.
Since climbing up and down is different, I separated the rout for descend.
Waypoints
MKM Summit
There is a grave at the summit where local visit to pray. You can see Siran and Kaghan valleys. Further mountains of Kashmir and Allai valley are also visible. Summit is at an altitude of about 4,100 metres (13,500 ft).
First Ziyarat
First Ziyarat is a grave 30 minutes before the summit of MKM.
Gali Base Camp
You can set up camp in Gali, but it becomes too windy and cold at night. There is a mosque which you can stay if you have not brought camp but it has 3 walls, so you won't be protected from cold weather.
Dor stream
I always take a dip in the cold and soothing water of Dor here. Sand here is of beige cold color, which is very strange
Dor point
It's a point where two streams meet and for Siran River. The point is called Dor. From here you can take the either the route with Siran River or the higher route up on the mountain. First one is easier though. However I followed the second one, on the mountains, route in here.
Jeep Pick up point
Your ride will pick you up from here. Munda Gacha is only 3 KM away
