Itinerary description
Waypoints
Limekiln
A disused limekiln which soured limestone in the local quarries. By burning rushed limestone at high temperatures quicklime could be raked off. This was used to improve the soil for farming as well as whitewash for example.
Shell House
A recluse for the Bishop to contemplate, with views overlooking the ornamental ponds and to the lands in the north. The inner walls were lined with shells as was vogue in those days. The remains of a hearth is also present for heat,
Ornamental Pond
One of two ornamental ponds forming an 'L' shape. Two springs supply the water for them. Both are visible at the bottom of the pond. A basic hide is provided for the public to watch the birds, including the kingfisher.
Site of Bishopstown House
The original building no longer exists and neither do any pictures of it. A similar building, involving Bishop Peter Brown at an earlier time, may give some impression of how it looked.
Doorframe from original mansion
This doorframe is believed to have come from the original mansion and placed in the east access of one of the farm buildings.
