Leaving Northumberland National Park we find Chesters Roman Fort, one of the most notable complexes on the entire Wall and containing one of the best preserved Roman baths in Britain.
From here, we follow the path almost always parallel to the Military Road (built in 1751 to quell the Jacobite revolts), without seeing the Wall itself until we reach Heddon-on-the-Wall. Precisely this road was built largely using the foundations of the wall.
The stage is very difficult, not because of the hardness of the terrain, but because of the distance traveled. However, it can be done with good preparation.
