Itinerary description
White Horse Hill Campsite --> Kea Point --> Sealy Tarns --> Mueller Hut --> White Horse Hill Campsite
4h up + 3h down (next day). Done on 23-24 December 2019. Conditions: snow above 1500 m, backpack with food and warm clothes, also got crampons and ice axes. With better conditions on the trail or day-walk with light backpack - could be done faster.
Great walk with all the best views around Mount Cook National Park. One of the best mountain sunsets we've seen around, and simply incredible night sky. Technically not complicated and very well marked trail, however with bad weather (i.e. heavy clouds or winter conditions) it may be more challenging.
Hut is well equipped with water and gas stoves. Sleeping conditions normal (as in all mountain huts). Two shared rooms with mattresses available. At least sleeping bag required. Toilet available outside. Well maintained space, common kitchen area, nice atmosphere. Porch outside with amazing views. Definitely recommending staying there for a night.
Hut needs to be booked online before arriving (November - April).
