Itinerary description

We walked this path over three days sleeping in Houay Bo and Houay Sen. Should be possible i none day if yo start early. Times in between each village are a little less than an hour.

We started right after we arrived at about 11:30am. Each village’s guesthouse is very simple, offers food for 10000-15000K and a bed for 10000K (things add up). They have a lock there if you want to leave your backpack and do day trips. We did not go to the village Phon which has the option of a homestay but no guesthouses.

The cave on the way is nice but nothing breathtaking compared to others in South East Asia. You will have to pay 20000 to go to the villages or cave at this point. 5 years ago Muang Ngoy used to be a great backpacking enclave but is rather over run by tourists by now. The hike is a good way to escape this for at least a bit.

Bring sandals if you don’t want to walk barefoot in the river or get wet shoes. Otherwise a very easy and beautiful hike.

You can either balance over the fairly big trunk or walk through the shallow water to the right. There is another river to cross to get to Houay Bo.

There is many different paths to get over the field here. We followed this guy to his village Houay Bo and went slightly off the trail marked on the map.

Still a little off the path but this seemed to be the shortest way.

River Crossing

The ‘official’ crossing is just a little bit further up the river. Does not make a difference though.

Arriving at Huay Bo Village. We slept at Konsavan Guesthouse. 10000K pp and food was around 10000-15000K for a small portion. They have homegrown tobacco here. You could easily stay longer here, join the villagers for hunting or go for a walk to continue on the path from here.

Towards the end there is a big gps mistake when I went into the cave.
