Itinerary description

The trail starts at Mtentu Lodge, walking down for around 200 meters to the Mtentu river mouth. A transfer service is available to cross the river for about 20 ZAR (1.30 EURO) fee. There is no way to skip this without getting wet. Once on the other shore, a beach walk of about 4 km in the mesmerising Wild Coast will take you to a stranded ship and that will be the reference point to start walking inland. To the north, at 300 meters is the Mkhambati Falls. The view of the river mouth from the top of the waterfall is amazing.

Afterwards, crossing the Mkhambati river and walking north following the river course is the Strandloper Falls. There are no human settlements up the river stream, so water could be drinkable. Swimming is also possible.

There is a beautiful cave next to the pool, a perfect lunch spot after a refreshing swim.

Although the way back is by following the same trail, the daylight changes will make the walk different. It is important to bear in mind the tides and getting back to the lodge before it is dark.

It is not a difficult trail, enjoyable with kids.
