Itinerary description
This challenging hike over the plate-of-spaghetti that is the trail system on Mt. Tzouhalem, takes you from the parking lot on Nevilane Dr. to Jitka's Bench on the south east side of the mountain.
The forest on Mt. Tzouhalem make for a pleasant walk and the trails are well maintained. The views from Jitka's bench are superb! You will be looking down on Maple Bay and Bird's Eye Cove farm with glimpses of Cowichan Bay. On a clear day, looking over Saltspring Island there are distant views of Mt. Baker and Mt. Garibaldi on the mainland.
WARNING: these trails are shared with mountain bikers so be aware of bike traffic!

Views from the lookout at Jitka's Bench
The bench was (originally) created by Michal Jitka, a member of the Cowichan Outdoor Group, in 2001. The bench was rebuilt in 2021 by the COG using logs from a tree blown down by a storm in 2018.
