Itinerary description
This hike started at the traditional tourist starting point of St Catherine's Monastery and ascends the tourist trail where the camels go up. From the summit, except for the short final summit ascent section, the trail descends via the steep '3000 steps of repentance' directly back to St Catherine's Monastery.

The trail is difficult mainly for the second part which is descending the 3000+ staircases directly to Saint Catherine's monastery. I enjoyed every bit of it and took loads of pictures.

I tried to do it today (April 6th, 2024), but there weee two bad news:
1) You have to park your car 1.3 km from St Cathrine Monastery
2) The Steps of Repentance trail is closed for good (for reasons unknown but the guide will not take you and the police will stop you if you try it anyways).
