Itinerary description
A strenuous hike to Mt. Lamarck from the North Lake / Piute Pass trailhead. The views are tremendous from the summit, especially toward Mt. Darwin and Mt. Mendel. This hike was made more difficult by the elevation, going from 9,300' to 13,417'. We were slowed considerably by lack of acclimatization, and the 4,000' of elevation gain. The overall elevation gain was closer to 4,500' as there are several spots of descending. This peak affords some of the better views in the Sierra, and can be done as a dayhike by non-climbers, which makes it an attractive mountain to climb. The last 600' of the hike is a steep boulder hop, with some low class 3 moves. I'd probably rate this as "difficult", but the altitude can make it that much harder.

Piute Pass Trailhead
The trailhead for Piute Pass and Lamarck Lakes. You can't park near the trailhead, as it is for paying campers only. You have to park 1/2 mile back down the road at the pack station/backpacker lot...kind of a bummer.
