Itinerary description

My second visit to Mt Ernest.
Enjoyed the hike/scramble/climb to the summit from the western side.

There are some very difficult rock scrambling points just before the summit. A rope may have been handy, but not necessary if you are confident with challenging rock scrambling.

Some great views back across to Mt Barney and Mt Lindsay in the opposite direction.

Loved the trip across the top before heading down the eastern end which is the part I like the least. Very, very.. steep over loose small/medium sized rocks meant you need to go carefully.

Towards the end, to avoid private property, I detoured (bushbashed) crossing Cronan Creek towards Campsite 9, joining up with the Upper Logon Rd firetrail and back to Yellow Pinch carpark to finish.

Attempted this route yesterday. The two of us set off around 8am, nice initial walk in and although steep up the ridge line it’s very easy to stay on track, we ascended the western ridge line and as you near the top the scramble gets intense, just before the top there was a scramble that seemed precarious, we assessed our options and decided on coming back down... I’ll attempt this loop again in reverse another day in reverse with a rope I think but definitely an advanced track.

Hope people read your good feedback and understand why the rating I gave was "difficult" plus my description warning people the final section to the summit isn't easy (I personally didn't find it too bad).

I wouldn't recommend doing in reverse because down is always harder than up.

I did this two days ago.. I thought the scrambling was of moderate difficulty.. I managed without any significant difficulty.. but I am a seasoned rock climber as well
