Itinerary description
Mt Cordeaux track is a lower gradient track well-maintained and easy to hike. The track starts from Cunninghams Gap and is is situated on the south side of the mountain so it is often wet and muddy. As with most mountains in main range the south western sides of the mountains are wetter.
With the elevation being around 800 too 900m towards the start, stinging trees are prevalent and from time to time doing do encroach upon the track. There are some stairs towards the end of the track where you ascend the final windy staircase to Mt Cordeaux.
This track also goes to Bare Rock. Bare rock is 100 or so metres higher and about 2.8 km further along. With the recent track changes in their final approach to Bare Rock the hike is now easier. No the overall elevation gain stated on the hike using accurate because The Contours around the final ascent are not correct with how the track winds up at the end. This mean the elevation gain is incorrect.
This hike can be done most of the year and even in the hotter months because the walk up is done in rainforest. Bare rock is obviously very hot in summer. Be careful how you park at Cuninghams Gap because car parking is limited and the main highway very busy.
