Itinerary description

At the top of Mt Bolduc, is a memorial site marking the 1944 crash of an RCAF coastal patrol plane. It was enroute from Patricia Bay to Tofino when it collided with the top of Mt Bolduc with no survivors.

The Memorial is interesting and the views on the way up to it and at the summit are spectacular.

This is a strenuous hike, uphill all the way with an average grade of 14%. It is along a decomissioned logging road, which gets progressively rougher as you ascend.

Be aware that the weather at the summit can be significantly different than down by Lake Cowichan. Bring wet weather gear and a warm jacket etc. in the fall/winter/spring and extra water in the summer.

The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 4B.

Looking for a hike in the Cowichan Valley? Or, looking for hiking companions? Google "Retreads Hiking Club CVRD".

Directions to the trailhead from Honeymoon Bay (distances are approximate):

A safe place to park

One of the difficulties of this hike is finding a place to park your vehicle that is safe and does not block the logging road. It is certainly possible to drive further up the road and park but the road narrows as it goes making it more difficult to park safely.

Alternate Parking Lot

In previous hikes to Bolduc we have parked here. There is still SOME parking here but if you can't park here there is no alternative. DO NOT park blocking the road. Beyond this point only high clearance 4WD vehicle recommended!
