Itinerary description
Easy walk to the summit of Mount Beetham (929 m). Although you can take a gravel road and park your car right below the summit loop I found it more interesting to start from Arrowtown.
At the Bush Creek recreation reserve in Arrowtown there is plenty of space to park your car but keep in mind that this area is very popular during the weekends and gets very busy around noon. There are public toilets available in this area.
If you find this parking full there is another one 500 meters further up the track, see the waypoint.
The walk starts next to the Arrow River and at about 1 kilometer it crosses the river and starts the ascent. After a couple more kilometers you'll see the signpost that indicates the start of the Mount Beetham summit loop.
After going over the fence the climb to the top is only about 800 meters but quite steep.
The views from the top are very nice, Lake Hayes and even Queenstown on one side and Crown Peak (1735 m) and Mount Sale (1708 m) on the other side.
After enjoying the views we start the descent following the poles that mark the loop.
Once down to Glencoe Road we head back to Arrowtown.
In summary, easy and short walk with nice views from the top to reward the steep ascent.
