Itinerary description
Lollipop trail in the western part of the Makhtesh. The trail starts at Mt. Ramon which is the highest point in the area (1035m a.s.l.) and continues along the north rim of the Makhtesh providing wonderful views. Climbing down to the bottom, we pick an unmarked trails which climbs to Mt. Arod (945m a.s.l.). This is the largest of the several basalt hills in the western part of the Makhtesh (the hill are nicknamed "Karnei Ramon" - Ramon's Horns). Strategically located in the middle of the Makhtech, Mt. Arod provides almost panoramic view. Climbing back down, the trail returns to the north rim through the "prism canyon" - another basalt are we the rocks crystallized like prisms. Return to the starting point along the rim.
