Parked the car at the beginning of the hamlet of Zatolmin (250 m) about 1 km away. From Tolmin, we traveled uphill (indications) a stretch of town on an asphalt road, until we reached a wide forest road, which, after a long journey, connected us to a path at an altitude of 610 meters (on this route you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Isonzo valley). Returning once again to the forest road, we soon arrived at a crossroads at around 1000 m, from where we began to climb a well-marked path, but at times very steep and slightly exposed, which runs along the south/west ridge of the mountain, crossing a series of old military posts dating back to the First World War. After this slightly more challenging stretch (treacherous with wet or frozen ground) we reached the large and panoramic peak of Mrzli Vrh at an altitude of 1359 m, 2 hours and 10 minutes from the start. From the top you can enjoy a beautiful panorama of the Monte Nero group, of the mountains above Tolmin, such as Vrh nad Skrbino and Vogel, and on the other side the view opens up to Matajur. After the break we continued our journey following the crest of the mountain until we descended to Planina Pretovc (1143 m) from where we followed another forest road which took us back to the crossroads where we took the steep path on the outward journey, concluding this ring at the top of the route. To return to the car, in just over 2 hours from the summit, we retraced the route we had taken at the start. Total times (excluding the stop at the top): 4 hours and 20'; difficulty E/EE.
