Itinerary description

Amazing hike. Overnight camp in the saddle at obvious campsite ~6kms in (~4.6km on my recording due to delayed start). Dropped packs and summited Mt Steamer and walked to ships stern lookout (~4kms round trip) with daypacks. The whole trail as of 04/06/23 is very good but there are some short sections of track where it’s easy to lose the trail or where there are multiple routes. Definitely have GPS device handy and despite those few sections where the trail is thin, know you should be on an obvious trail. Beware of the ever fluctuant Gympie-Gympie, make sure you bring a long sleeve shirt, and though I did the hike in shorts and Outdoor Research Crocodile Gaiters, my exposed knees felt the wrath of a few stingy boys.

Other notable mentions is that the water source at the saddle is unreliable. Between my partner and I, we went through a total of 10L of water inclusive of cooking, coffee and cleaning.
