Itinerary description
Mount Mitchell, MTS and Commissary Trails. This was a 10 mile hike (lost the data for the first part of the trail). We started at the Black Mt campground. The Trail head is in the campground to the left towards the group camp. We hiked up about 2.2 miles and set up camp close to the bald on the MTS Trail (Not on the Mt Mitchell Trail) Continued to the summit with light packs. A bit of a letdown at the top because of the 300 or so people who drove up. For views without the crowds, continue west on the MTS to the commissary trail. This is a double track that runs along the eastern side of the ridge with great views without the crowds.
