Itinerary description
Tip: do not follow Google Maps to the starting point as it will take you to Eden Valley/end of the road at Springbrook National Park and you would end up 2 km away from the starting point.
Instead, coming from Currumbin Valley, take the turn to your left for Murwillumbah / Tomewin and then set your GPS to reach "Mount Cougal Trailhead Walk Car Park".
The hike starts pretty well defined, just follow the rabbit fence all the way through and once it ends (approx 1hr and 15min), there will be a clear pathway to follow all thw way to the first peak.
Once you reach the first peak, of you've got enough energy and time, think an extra 1.5/2 hrs return (including a break) to reach the west peak.
Not much lookout spots on the second peak u less you make your way through to the edges, but could be a great spot to camp overnight as it is nice and sheltered among pine trees.
Every now and then you may have the feeling of being off track, but again the main trail is well defined and easy to get back to.
Some pretty steep up vertical climbs before reaching the first and the second peak - be careful as sometimes the roots you hang onto may not be as robust to support you - grip well on rocks perhaps.
I recommend this hike when it hasn't been raining for a while as it will be easier in dry conditions.
Overall, amazing views and very good hike done in approx 6 hrs, including a break on each peak.
