Itinerary description
This route starts at Yellow Pinch car park and ascends to Mount Barney's East peak via Mezzanine Ridge. The route then returns to the origin via South East Ridge, taking the newer route across the river.
Mezzanine Ridge is steep and exposed, but is straightforward scrambling with juggy holds and fantastic feet. Confident scramblers or climbers will be right at home, but don't ascend via Mezzanine unless you're experienced. The risk of death or serious injury is very much real. Outside of that the view of the valley is incredible, and without doubt the most scenic part of the hike.
In a small group of experienced hikers and climbers, it took us four and a half hours to ascend, and two and a half to descend.
Recorded on a Garmin Foretrex 601.
