Itinerary description

This hike starts at the Flora car park. It is a challenge just to arrive at the car park. It's steep all the way and quite steep at some points. It is challenging to go up and also to go down. I was surprised to see so many cars when I arrived at the Flora car park. For some reason I thought I will be the only one but this mountain seems to be quite popular. The car park was full. Maybe 30 cars. Many of them were not 4WD.
If the weather is not good I wouldn't go up in my car.

We got ready and started walking. The first part to Mount Arthur hut is very easy. You walk inside the forest, the track is quite wide and well-marked. The slope is also gentle and will take us to the hut in about 4 Km.

From the hut onwards the track is quite different, we are out of the forest, in an alpine environment and the track narrows down quite a lot. Still it is well-marked.
After walking for a bit and gaining some elevation we'll start having direct views of the Mount Arthur summit far in the distance. The mountain looks like a gigantic piece of rock.
The closer we got to the rocky area the more I had the feeling that getting to the summit was going to be very difficult. I could not see how the track was going to get through that big rock walls without having to climb.
I could not be more wrong. I kept walking and you always have a fairly easy track where you just walk. You don't need to climb or use your hands at all.
The last few meters are a bit steeper but soon we get to the summit ridge. We make a right turn to get to the summit ridge and 3 minutes later we are at the summit.
The summit ridge is very wide, also the summit itself. The views from the top are astonishing. You can see the track that took you there and you feel proud of what you have just achieved.

One note of caution when going down: When coming down the summit ridge don't forget that you have to make a left turn. Remember that we took a sharp right turn to get to the summit ridge. There is a red pole signalling the spot where you turn but it's easy to miss it and there is no way you can come down if you continue down on the summit ridge. You will get to a precipice.

In summary very nice hike, a very impressive rocky mountain with amazing views from the top. Just be careful if the weather is not good, it could turn an enjoyable hike into a nightmare.
