Lane-Mordecai House
The Mordecai House was built in 1785 for the Lane family, and Joel Lane built this house as a wedding gift for his son. Named after Moses Mordecai, this piece of land of is was once the largest plantation in Wake County and was occupied from 1785-1964. The City of Raleigh purchased this purchased the house for $60,000 in 1968 and with the help of local charity groups, funds were obtained to buy the inside furnishings. Today, 80 percent of the furnishings and pieces on display inside the Mordecai House are original.
Badger-Iredell Law Office
Built in 1810. Originally, this was the law office of U.S. Senator George Badger, but he later sold it to attorney James Iredell.
Andrew Johnson’s Birthplace
Built in 1795, Andrew Johnson, the 17th President of the United States, was born here on December 29th, 1808.
