Itinerary description
From picture postcard Morano Calabro you hike right into the majestic and remote Pollino mountains in Basilicata. First part of the trail a bit annoying along farmland with angry dogs. Quickly the trail goes up along beautiful forests, a deserted castle, waterfalls and the exotic pino loricato trees amidst wild roaming horses. I was fortunate to be allowed to sleep in the Madonna di Pollino priest room; take your tent or book ahead in the next door rifugio which has a few rooms. High elevation, lots of climbing but accessibility is good
