Itinerary description
Start/Finish: Trailhead Lookout Trail, Lookout Road, Montreat (NC).
Mostly easy hike through a beautiful forest over a clearly marked and easy to follow trail alongside and underneath large rhodondendrons. After 3.5 km you go right on the Lookout Trail and reach the top after 350 metres of climbing steep staircases and scrambling across rocks. After having enjoyed the stunning view you return down the steep 350 metres and then continue to descend down the Lookout Trail towards the starting point.
Overall an easy hike apart from the 700 metres Lookout Trail towards the top. Therefore the overall rating is ‘difficult’ . If you dont do the 700 metres to the viewpoint it is an easy hike.
