We left from the Katarina Plaza Hotel very early, to be able to reach the summit of Sinai to see the sunrise. The plain is about 1520 meters above sea level, and the summit is about 2280 meters above sea level.
At 2AM we were already on the trail, completely dark. Many people, some climbed it on camels. The path is not very complex, but it became a bit hard when you reached the "1000 steps" sector; in addition, you have to avoid the slower pilgrims. On the way there is a kiosk where you can buy water, sweets and snacks (welcome).
We reached the summit around 04:30 am. Upstairs is a small stone chapel, and also a mosque.
The view from there is impressive: the mountains completely made of stone, and being at the point where you can see 360 degrees around. In addition, it is a permanent pilgrimage site, which makes it even more special.
We began to return at approximately 05:40, along the same path, and almost at the end we passed through the Santa Catalina Monastery (Saint Catherine), already fully daylight, which looks spectacular. We reached the end of the tour at approximately 6AM.
