Monte Roraima

To climb Mount Roraima or any other Tepuy in the region you must hire a local "Venezuelan" guide, this is required at the entrance to the Mount Roraima National Park in Venezuela. So don't want to go it alone, because you won't get permission for it.

I went with the agency Monte Roraima Travel of Boa Vista, best cost and benefit (Instagram @monteroraimatravel)

Period from 12/27/18 to 3/1/19

Day 1: We left Boa Vista at 11am in a van heading to the San Francisco de Yuruani village in Venezuela, arriving in the late afternoon in this village where we stayed overnight in simple and comfortable cabins. We met the team of guides and porters who would take us on this adventure, Omar team, good people (all Venezuelans of Pémon indigenous ethnicity)

Day 2: After breakfast at 7 am the group split into 2 Toyotas 4x4 and followed to the park entrance to register our entry and follow to Paraitepuy village (it was + or- 2h dirt road where only a 4x4 can pass) ... Arriving in Paraitepuy we made a second entry in the attendance book, the group got together and started the trail to the Kukenan River refuge (it was + or- 7h quiet track, but it has to be a physical preparation for her, there is no shadow at any time of the trail and the sun punishes, proper clothes help in this regard and a good straw hat) we arrived at the Kukenan River camp and we stayed overnight. Beautiful and cold night, starry sky.

Day 3: We woke up early, breakfast reinforced, started the trail to base camp, narrowest trail with many loose rocks, just climb. Sun cracking, I saw a lot of people already wanting to quit that day KKK ... We arrived at the base camp at about 14h, gave time to bathe, wash clothes and dry in the sun. The night comes, this time even colder, a 5 ° thermal sensation, dri-fit second-skin clothes + a goose down jacket settled quietly. The night was beautiful, the Milky Way illuminated us.

Day 4: We woke up at 6:30 am Breakfast, followed by the most difficult part of this trekking, the famous "paso de las tears" is a steep climb on the rocks, bordering the cliff of Mount Roraima, for me it was quiet because I already have experience with this type of climbing, but for many who was the first time doing a trekking was very difficult. At the end of this stretch we reach the summit, a view of another world literally, cold even with sunshine, cold reigns there on the summit, heading towards our "hotel" san francisco in some caves. We stayed overnight in our tents inside the cave, beautiful and challenging experience.

5th day: the group split, half went to make the tripce stitch and half went to make the abyss and the wind. I went to the abyss and the wind, enjoyed the good weather for that, because the weather above is unstable and drastically changes, it was the best choice I made, the day was beautiful and open, I could contemplate the abyss and the wind also is an abyss. Beautiful thing to see. Moment of reflection, meditation. On the way back we stop in the jacuzes to bathe in the miraculous waters of the crystals. Then we head to the cave camp.

6th day: the other half of the group that had gone to the trip made the abyss and the wind, I went again, this place is divine. After that I went alone with Omar to explore other points of the abyss outside the traditional retreat, we discovered fantastic places. We opted to go down to the finish that day after noon, arrived at the base camp by nightfall.

7th day: 8am breakfast and then we set off for the Tek River camp, it was our last night together, it was d +, to fraternize that moment with all of the Omar team, they are warriors and warriors, as they climb Mount Roraima countless times a year.

8th day: 8am breakfast, then drive to Paraitepuy village, got there, searched, signed the book and climbed the 4x4 to follow the border. At the border the van was waiting for us.
