I suppose this trail is less known and popular than Chiguata trail leading up to the summit of Misti. Don't worry route is clearly visible and you can consider trash as route markings. I have walked by quite a bunch of tuna cans, plastic bottles on the way up especially near overnight places. There are many small pockets some reinforced with stones where you can pitch your tent and spend the night (from ~4500m to ~4900m).
Reaching the starting point is possible by public transport. The last bus stop is called 'San Luis' is where gpx tracks starts. First part simply follows gravel road, be aware of dogs when passing excavation site or something like that. Main difficulty is of course altitude and loose sand/rocks on the way up.
