Itinerary description
Arrived at Yosemite Valley Trailhead Parking around 7:30am. It's required to store all food in the bear-resistant lockers provided. There are normal restrooms just before the Happy Isles Bridge. Trail is pretty easy up to the Vernal Falls Bridge (lots of young kids), another restroom here and water station. There was a park employee at the Mist Trailhead directing people to stay on the Mist Trail if you want to continue past Vernal Falls up to Nevada Falls and return on the loop via the John Muir Trail as they prefer people to all hike in the same direction. However, though the John Muir trail to Nevada Falls is slightly longer, the trail is a bit easier out and back since it's also used for horses. You will get very wet on the hike to Vernal Falls and the steps are steep and can be slippery. After Vernal Falls, you can either loop back around or continue up to Nevada Falls. There's a pit toilet at the Mist/Muir junction and plenty of places to eat lunch by the Falls. I think the views from the Muir side are spectacular as you can see Nevada Falls, Liberty Cap, and the backside of Half Dome.
