Itinerary description

!!! Pt !!! (English text available below)

!!! En !!!

Trail done in June 2014, in a tour through the southwestern United States. The overall tour was posted as “Western Explorer Road Trip (PWE423B)” and includes links to the other trails associated.

I've done this trail that looks like a "figure 8" in order to pass through all the main waypoints around this part of the River Merced to Nevada Fall and avoid returning through the same track. This allow us go trough all the "Mist Trail" and some parts of the "John Muir Trail" and to admire all these magnificient scenarios from wider variety of viewpoints.

I rated the Technical Difficulty (which does not evaluate the physical requirement) as "Moderate" because of the caution necessary to avoid falling. The trail condition and all the information signs are excellent. It seems that these trails are so popular that you will always find assistance in case you have any problem!

This trail has some physical difficulty because of the differences in altitude you have to overcome, and requires some attention when going down the stairs. Make sure you take plenty of water and some food with you. You can refill drinking water at km 1,65 (just after the first crossing of the River Merced).

Enjoy!

Mario. Is it easy to access to the beginning of the trail (happy isles bridge) by car? I am interested in doing this trail on next summer. Did you sleep inside the park. I am searching hotel but it is so expensive.

    Hello Pere!

Yes, it is possible to reach the starting point of this trail by car!
In 2014 the access to the center of the park by private car was allowed, and there were parking spaces available.
There were also buses (Yosemite Valley Shuttle System) that allow visitors to move within the park throughout the day. In June 2014 these buses were free.

I can't help you very much about the accommodation issue because I visited the park through a Tour, in which the operator (http://www.trekamerica.com/)(http://www.grandamericanadventures.com/) took care of all the details regarding reservations and entry permits. We stayed at the Yosemite View Lodge (about 27 km away, next to a park entrance), but the guide drove us to Curry Village (Half Dome Village), where we took breakfast early!
If you are planning have your own car, or if it is possible to use other transport (http://yarts.com/), check if there are other good accommodation options inside and outside the park to get there early, to make the most of your time!

If you are planning to go to the top of the Half Dome (!), please remember that a permit is required, and you must apply for that permit in a lottery (https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/hdpermits.htm). Only 300 people are allowed to climb to the top of the Half Dome each day!

Take plenty of time to explore the official website of the park (https://www.nps.gov/), which is much more complete than 2 years ago, and make sure you don't miss any of the most important sites of the park: Tunnel View, Glacier Point, etc.

    Have a great vacation!
