Itinerary description
This is a trip that combines hiking with canoe/kayaking that a bunch of us did on a beautiful summer day. After a couple of lazy cottage days with great food and plenty of drinks Renata asked about doing something active the next day. The plan evolved in several stages and ended up with 10 of us doing this trip in various ways. What jokingly was being called the "3 Hour Cruise" (Gilligan's Island) became a nice trip around the lake that everyone seemed to enjoy. Special thanks to Sue and Garth for hosting!
Brenda, Bruce, Patty and Renata started by hiking along the winding Horseshoe Lake Road and did the hike portion at a fast pace arriving at the Minden Wild Water Preserve in about 45 minutes. Michele and Sue started a little earlier in a tandem kayak, checked in with us on their paddling portion and arrived at the Preserve a few minutes after us. There is parking, port-a-potty and picnic tables at the Preserve and several nice viewing spots to see paddlers attacking the white water.
After the arrival of Mike and Garth in a canoe and Louise and Randy in solo kayaks we had a short break at the base of the rapids. Sue and Michele became hikers while Renata and I jumped into the tandem kayak for the return trip to the dam.
Great fun, a beautiful day, some nice sights and we got some exercise too!
