Itinerary description
This is an easy hike through the forest that starts behind the ‘Mammoth Mountain Inn’, and this hike follows a trail that is more or less parallel to highway 203. The trail ends at the Minaret Vista, a scenic viewpoint where you can admire the beautiful minarets in the distance. Minaret Vista is a wonderful scenic viewpoint, especially at sunset.
Now, you might need to consult ‘Judge Judy’ to get an official confirmation, but I believe the parking lot at the trailhead is on federally owned land, not land owned my Mammoth Mountain. So I don’t believe that you need to have a Mammoth Mountain Inn parking permit to park at the trailhead, even though you need to drive through a Mammoth Mountain Inn Kiosk that says that you must have a permit to park in the area. (None of the other cars at the trailhead had a Mammoth Mountain Inn parking permit.)
If you’re feeling lazy, you can also drive to the Minaret Vista. Also, in the winter, you can snowshoe up highway 203 to check out the Minaret Vista too!
