Itinerary description
A nice wash loop off the beaten track.
Park at Mile 171 on the East (opposite) side of the road.
Hike downhill in the sandy wash.
When in doubt, keep slightly to the right.
Close to the canyon entrance, cross over to the west (right) to the next wash.
Hike this easy wash all the way to the lake.
On the wide part of the wash you should see a square fenced off part in the middle of the wash.
Head for the Red Rock lighthouse.
Take a look at the beach.
Head back the way you came and keep on the right hand side of the wash.
Take the first wash on the right. Follow the Burro trail all the way up the wash.
On top, follow the Burro trail to the right (South/East).
In front of you look for the sand dunes (3 dunes) with the picnic place.
The wide wash is the return route.
Hike up the wash and notice the white rock on the left.
The wash isn't that obvious, keep a bit to the left, following the main sandy wash.
The canyon narrows, indicating something is about to happen.
A small drop, that's easy to climb on.
The second one is slightly higher but easier to handle.
The main wash turns left, but is far too steep to climb.
So turn left as soon as you can easily make it over the top.
Downhill is a bit slippery, but from now on it's an easy stroll back to the car.
Don't forget to take a look to the left. The drop is more than the picture suggests.
