Itinerary description
This is part 1 of the 4-days hike from Mestia to Ushguli, the probably most famous hike in Svanetia. Useful information about this hike can be found on the on the Caucasus Trekking website by Jozef Antala.
In high season, when the weather is good, the trail can be quite crowded. If you rely on staying in guest houses, consider to book in advance.
I did this trail as part of a 6-days hike through Svanetia which took me from Etseri via Mestia to Ushguli. The idea of this hike was inspired from the Transcaucasian Trail Project.
I stayed the night in Guest House Kakhiani in Zhabeshi, which can be recommended.
