Ascent to Merbabu, the initial plan was to do the nearby Merapi, but currently it cannot be done because it is active.
To carry out this activity we hired a transfer service and 2 guides, we decided due to lack of time and because of the complexity of contracting transfers and climbing permits, they told us that it was mandatory to hire guide services, so I cannot be sure if they you can access for free.
The ascent is quite comfortable and without any difficulty and we do it in one go, although with the guides they intend to stop at a POS and prepare food for you, we tell them to leave it for the top.
Activity carried out in the rainy season, so we had little visibility and nothing at the top.
The descent along the same path, although in our case we went down with a strong storm so the path back to the path was a river of water.
