Itinerary description
This was one of my most memorable hikes. It was a true privilege to walk on a Glacier. Although this glacier is rapidly receding, it still looked huge to me. And the Glacier was so spectacular! If you have plenty of time, then you can hike this trail alone if you are a moderate hiker, and if the weather is nice. –There are a few parts of the trail where the granite rock could be slippery and difficult to scramble up if it’s raining, and if the rock is wet. (Also, you will need crampons if you want to walk on the glacier.) If you arrive in Juneau on a Princess cruise ship, then the only way you can hike to the Mendenhall Glacier is if you book an excursion with ‘Above and Beyond Alaska’ because the cruise ship stays in Juneau for very little time. The guides from ‘Above and Beyond Alaska’ can pick you up at the cruise ship, give you all of the necessary equipment, lead you on an enjoyable hike to the glacier and let you explore the glacier, and then drive you back to the cruise ship. That’s what I did, and it was the highlight of my cruise!
