Itinerary description
Maude Road to Henry's Peak
This is a great walk for the more adventurous hikers. This could be an alternative route to the Pouakai reflective lakes to avoid the crowds on the Pouakai hut track.
Follow the track towards the waterfall but keep going straight up the ridge when you reach the waterfall turn off sign. This is a beautiful waterfall if you want to do the side trip. We have done that walk many times before so did not go there this time. The track is not as well maintained from here on but easy to follow and the bush is beautiful. The higher you go the challenging the track becomes. It was quite slippery when we did it. Once you get above the tree line the track requires care as the tussock hides the holes making your foot placement more treacherous. The views are great from here on. After 30 minutes you reach the boardwalks of the Pouakai circuit .From here you can turn right and the reflective lakes are 10 minutes away. We turned left and followed the circuit track up to Henry's Peak.
Henry's Peak is a great lunch stop with seating and fantastic views.
