Itinerary description
The mileage is over-rated. This was exploratory. You can stop a good mile sooner and enjoy the lake. My other tracks show the trail over the summit eastward to include Doris Lakes and Lois Lake. The hike to Maud is over granite, acres of it, with a little steep section shortly before you get to Maud Lake. There are plenty of places to either take in some shade or to sun yourself. It looks more grassy to me, but you can wade in some areas without kicking up sediments.
