A two-hour drive on a beautiful road from Anchorage brings you to the private property where the entrance to the glacier is located. Although the head of the glacier was previously state property, it has been shrinking until it remains in a private area, whose owners exploit it by organizing tours to the glacier. The price per person is US$125 for non-Alaska residents or US$40 for Alaska residents.
Once we arrive at the payment booth, they will open a barrier for us so that we can continue to the parking area. In this we have picnic tables and bathrooms. Helmets will also be provided there. Once we have walked to the head of the glacier, they will also provide us with crampons. At the designated time the tour begins.
The route is done with a guide. It is short but quite spectacular, especially for those of us who are not used to hiking on glaciers. The route is more or less simple, but not recommended for people with movement or balance difficulties. It is done in a couple of hours.
