Itinerary description
This hike was on my radar for a longer time, today I finally did it. I knew it would be very interesting because this 12 km hike was revolving around an interesting place called "Cowboy Ranch" located in Markuševec Turopoljski. "Cowboy Ranch", as its name suggests, is arranged in a wild west style - horses (with riding opportunity for anybody who wants to try it), cowboy music, old barrels, it even has a "jail"... :). So this was my starting and ending point of this loop hike. To be honest, I expected to see more wild life this time but it just did not happen. I wasn't disappointed or anything like that though. I just love hiking through the woods and any wild life on my way is just a bonus. This time I saw lots of colorful butterflies and low flying birds. However, I heard one animal on the last couple of kilometers of the hike but did not see it because of very thick vegetation at that portion of the hike. It could have been a deer or a wild boar... It got afraid and ran away from my close proximity in a split second. As I frequently like to do to make my hikes more interesting and adventurous, this time I also decided to take a shortcut off-trail through raw forest on the last 2 km of my hike (not knowing what to expect on my way at that portion). I have to admit that this last 2 km were very challenging because of the terrain (random steep uphills and downhills, some streams to be jumped over, mud on my way) and very thick vegetation with thorns here and there. Unfortunately, I didn't take my machete this time with me, I took just water, hiking poles and nothing else. But eventually I made it to the "Cowboy Ranch" from the other side which was also my ending point. Of course, after my arrival I took my time to enjoy watching beautiful horses, there are plenty of them on the ranch.
