Itinerary description
Mariam ( Մարիամ լեռ ) is one of the mighty peaks of the Pambak mountains or the Pambaki mountains ( Փամբակի լեռներ / Փամբակի լեռնաշղթա ), in Kotayk province, Armenia.
The height of the mountain is 2499 meters and the easiest way to hike it starts from Aghavnadzor village ( Աղավնաձոր գյուղ )․
--- This is a classic trail of the mountain, as most of the trail you follow vehicle traces that gradually lead you up close to the peak.
--- Take into consideration that this trail was hiked in winter. We were trying not to lose the way, but we may have strayed from the right path a little bit, as it was deep snow and poor visibility during some parts of the trail.
--- If you plan to hike Mariam mountain and get back to Aghavnadzor, I'd suggest hiking down the same route as the other slopes that lead to the village are quite steep.
--- There is also an option to hike down to Kakavadzor district if you want to hike longer distance ( Կաքավաձոր թաղամաս ) but that option is definitely not wor winter hikes.
--- SEASON: It's hard to say that this mount is considered to hike in all seasons.
Kotayk region normally has more severe and snowfull winters than for example Tavush, Vayots Dzor or Syunik regions. When it snows here, the snow can get till your hips, but if you are fond of challenging winter hikes, it's a perfect place not far from the city.
--- BEST SEASON for the scenery starts from May till July, it's green and comfy temperature. July, August and September it's hot here, from October till December it's dried and golden with pleasant temperature, and usually from mid December till mid April it either snows up there or the snow hasn’t melted yet (depending on season).
--- This is only a one-way recorded trail, the whole hike's distance is 11 km.
