Itinerary description
This pleasant hike takes you across the Bald Mountain Peninsula that separates the north and south arms of Cowichan Lake. You will visit two local beaches with good swimming opportunities and great lake views.
There is a bit of urban street walking but the majority of the trails are in beautiful forest that forms part of the Cowichan Lake Forest Research Station.
Along the way, you will pass a derelict car embedded in the forest. Local legend has it that this was the get away car for an armed bank robbery in Lake Cowichan back on Nov. 25, 1983.
There are toilets at the trailhead and at both beaches.
The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an American Volksports Association rating of 1A.
