Itinerary description
Greylock Monument via Bellows and Thunderbolt Trails - easy to moderate for those who are fit. Difficult for anyone who is unprepared. Starts off easy enough on loose gravel, grass and eventually packed gravel before hitting typical trail conditions of dirt, loose stone, and rock. Once on the Thunderbolt, the grade is very steep in several places which may require some people to use their hands or hiking poles. Poles will make a difference in those places on the descent. Eventually, the trail crosses the auto road and the monument is just a short distance up from there. The lodge is pretty well stocked for food and beverages which include sandwiches, burgers, soups and salads as well is ice cream bars and some baked goods. There are a few picnic tables and there is plenty of seating indoors. Nice place to relax and get out of the sun before heading back down.
