The Mangorei route known for the mythical photo of Mt. Egmont reflected in the small lake is a route that takes about 2.5 hours, something more if you like the photo and try to get the reflection in every possible way haha. This route does not start from the Mt Egmont Visitor Center. But a half hour or so. The beginning of the route will take you to the car park from where it starts. The route is a climb up wooden stairs and a walkway through the forest until practically the end. Almost at the top you will find a shelter where you can sleep if you are going to do any of the multi-day routes. Just when you finish the climb to our left we will have the lake and to our right the detour to Pouakai summit 1H more, more or less. We combine both, the Pouakai is a similar path until the detour with the Holly hut, here a steeper slope begins where the stairs are not so good, then you go through a flat section to face the last part with a somewhat steeper climb since without stairs to help you, however it is not difficult if you are a bit fit and usually go out on the road. Upon reaching the top, without a doubt, the 360 view of the entire Egmont valley and the Peak behind you is wonderful.
