Itinerary description
An affordable, simple and beautiful route.
The route is best suited for autumn because there is little water in the Rkoni gorge and you can safely cross all dozens of fords without getting your feet wet. At other times of the year, this can cause problems and slow down a lot.
Along the part of the way that passes in the Algeti National Park, there are many sources of water. It is worth having a filter, since there are pastures with cattle here. Streams are also quite common on the descent and in the gorge itself. I didn't filter the water only if it was obvious from the spring.
We planned to walk to the Rkoni village, but it is quite difficult to leave there. Despite the fact that this is a tourist place, filled minibuses and cars come there. There may also be problems with mobile network from Rkoni to Chachubeti. I recommend booking a car in advance so that it waits for you in the Rkoni village and takes you home. The road from Rkoni to Chachebuti is not worth walking.
