Trekking around Manaslu carried out between October 4 and 16 inclusive, 2017.
A highly recommended route that combines sports, landscape and culture.

It comes out on a cold and clear day. Good breakfast and on the go. The whole group leaves and although it is a day of rest for the porters, Indra, Santosh and Reman accompany us.
Achut the guide stays doing some work but tells us that he catches us on the way up. For lunch we bring Tibetan bread and hard boiled eggs.
We left Sama and took what we believe is a more direct route to get to base camp. But it is the path that leads to Lake Birendra.
We passed by the Buddhist temple Nubri Pema,
The path, as I have mentioned, takes us to the shore of Lake Birendra located below the Manaslu. Nice place. We enjoy their surroundings for a good time.
By then Achut has arrived and has been looking at the way to pass to the other side of the lake. But it is not possible. We have to go back until we take a detour that takes us to the path that goes to base camp.
The climb to base camp begins smoothly. Little by little the ramps harden and the height begins to be noticed. The day and the temperature is ideal. Little by little the group is breaking up and each one picks up his own rhythm. For the porters it is the first climb to base camp as well. They laugh. They go at a different pace. We see that some people abandon the climb and other stops catching air. We go little by little until we reach a great plain, We see the flags. There are a couple of tents left from some expedition. We are happy. We have reached this beautiful place quite well.

Leaving Samagaon towards Lake Birendra. We pass through an area with a lot of vegetation. We can perfectly distinguish the summit and the eastern pinnacle of Manaslu. Where we are from, the pinnacle seems higher than the top. It is curious that the pinnacle has only been climbed once. Alex Txikón and Simone Moro will try to climb it in winter in 2,021. down from the top.

We are happy. We have climbed the base camp with effort but without problems. It is not cold and we spend a good time admiring the landscape. Two expeditions remain in the area trying to make a summit in Manaslu.

Bordering the walls of the lake and enjoying its view we ascend towards the base camp. In the distance we see Samagaon. Next to us the imposing glaciers that create the lake,

Lake of glacial origin at the foot of Manaslu. Seen from above, it acquires a beautiful turquoise color. We did not plan to go to the lake because we already had enough to go up to the base camp. But as happens sometimes, the mistake has brought us to this beautiful place and we have enjoyed it. And it has not been an impediment to climb to the base camp. He has given time for everything.

We left with sadness Samagaon. We have really enjoyed the two days we have spent here. When I went back home and read things about Nepal and the Nubri Valley I discovered the blog of Valentín Giró and the work they are doing in this area supporting the education of girls and boys and of which Carlos Soria was a pioneer. A big applause for them. Links: http://www.valentingiro.com/sin-categoria/el-manaslu-lodge-pionero-en-sama/

SAMAGAON Día de descanso

We take advantage of the day we are in Samagaon to climb the Manaslu base camp. It's a very good day A good breakfast and going. Achut the guide is delayed doing some management and we go with the porters Santosh Ra and Reman Ra who have never climbed to this base camp. The idea is to go to the base camp but we take a wrong turn and arrive at the shore of Lake Birendra. It is an area with great views of the glaciers and top of Manaslu. We want to pass the lake through the drainage area but it is not possible. Achut, who has returned, tries to find a crossing point but, as it is not possible, we have to return almost to the village and take the path that leads to the base camp. This tour of more to the lake will then be invoiced to some of the group that will desist from reaching the base camp. We make the upload to it slowly. When gaining height the views are extended. Now we see below the Birendra lake of a turquoise color. As we get closer to the cb we have to go making some stops that we take to take pictures. Santosh and Reman offer to take the backpack but we told them that today is their day of rest and that today we have to work for us. They laugh. We arrived at the field and enjoyed its views for a while. In the area there are two expeditions trying the top. The absence of garbage in the area is striking. We went down without problems and arrived to snack on something. In the afternoon a part of the group leaves to walk to acclimatise better and I go through the town "chatting" and seeing the work of the neighbors and playing with the children.
