FILMS

There are several very interesting films that can be obtained on the net (emule) and that deal with various aspects of these areas of Nepal.

SAMSARA : It is made on the border between India and Nepal but the landscape and the towns can be any that we have seen on the way.
Link: https://www.filmaffinity.com/es/film104181.html

HIMALAYA: Shot in 1999, it has exceptional landscapes. Shot in the Dolpo Valley. The protagonist has lived there until very recently and was a well-known person from the movie.
Link: https://www.filmaffinity.com/en/film104181.html

KALO POTHI: Filmed in 2015, it somehow touches on the guerrilla theme.

BOOKS

To know the current situation in Nepal and the evolution of recent years I have found almost no material.
I find Jon Juanma's book interesting: Nepal the unknown revolution".
It is difficult to find but the download is free and authorized by the author.

Town where the route comes from. After a seven-hour trip from Kathmandu we arrived at Araughat. The trip on the bus an adventure. Seven hours on the edge of great precipices. There is a lot of traffic since the party called DEPAWALI is celebrated, which is a problem in these tracks. There is no room for two buses. All the while doing maneuvers at the edge of the cliff. . People visit their family and it is common to play cards in the street and cross bets, even children with small amounts of money. In Araughat we spent the afternoon and prepared everything for the game the next day. Link parties in Nepal: http://www.viajepornepal.com/nepal/celebraciones/celebraciones.html

The arrival of the first stage is a small town called Lapu-Besi. The lodge where we are going to have dinner and sleep has the name LAXMI and it is very good. The porters have arrived quite tired. The weight and the strong heat and humidity have taken their toll. But at the time they have recovered and Indra takes the madal and they start singing. We gather around them the people that are in the lodge and we accompany them with their palms. After a while, children and adults from the town appear. For them it is also a party. We cheer up and sing them some song. Achut is commenting on the lyrics of the songs. One that they repeat constantly and we will finish singing it is the famous "Resham Firiri". In another they ask their gods to finish the trip well and above all not to bury an avalanche. At dusk we see in the distance the lights of the towns located on the other side of the valley and even further away from basic services. We arrived in Sama a beautiful village on the slopes of Manaslu. It was built in 1959 by Tibetan refugees. In this town we are going to stay two days to acclimate and that allows us to enjoy it better. The group will try to climb the base camp at 4,800 meters. We got two of the group. Sama is a town with a lot of history and stories. The most important thing is that there is a school that serves several towns in the valley. In support of its construction have taken part and contributed people and climbers like Carlos Soria and Edurne Pasaban. At the inauguration that was made after the earthquake of 2015, he attended and cut the ribbon Valentín Giró de Barcelona. In Sama there are several lodges but there is one special one. It is a project by Carlos Soria to raise money for the village school. We have heard this on the way back. If we had known, we would have tried to do both nights in that place. I put links about this school because they are very interesting: http://www.helpingtohelp.org/2017/10/inauguracion-de-la-escuela-de-sama-nepal/ http://www.desnivel.com/expediciones/carlos-soria-feliz-en-el-manaslu http://www.valentingiro.com/sin-categoria/el-manaslu-lodge-pionero-en-sama/

It was not planned but we enjoyed the views. Lake Birendra is of glacial origin and is located just below the Manaslu. From the height it has a turquoise azure color. We get up during the day. Until breakfast time we take a walk around the town that is already under way. A couple of farmers are separating the grain and agree to take a picture. I teach the same to the woman and laughs. In the town, as in the whole route, the houses are very simple. Contrast poverty with extension eg. of the mobile phone. Even in the last town people walk with a cell phone. At the top of the town, the silhouette of a large excavator stands out. It has remained there because the rains have closed the way back. In another lodge I meet some Germans who are doing a tour in btt. Your guide speaks Spanish. He lived in Barcelona and he tells me that he worked at "Probike" in Barcelona and that he has been a BTT downhill professional. The breakfast takes so we decided that from the next day we will get up early and be at breakfast as soon as they start to serve it to go out as soon as possible.

It is not a bridge. It is a long iron structure attached to the wall to save the Gandaki River. The 2015 earthquake in this area was tremendous. Hill the step completely. The villages had to be supplied by helicopter. The treeking was closed several months. Apart from fixing the road in places like this, they had to be used thoroughly so that the inhabitants of the valley and its inhabitants could pass. The guide Achut had been repeating to us that it was a very bad and dangerous descent. We find ourselves on a very well marked path and without major problems. With the help of the canes we descended without any problem. I have seen chronicles of other mountaineers who have had problems with ice or snow plates. It was not our case. And we could enjoy going down from the views of the tongues of the glaciers and from time to time from great peaks but without spotting the Annapurnas.

The room that we play has nine bunks. We are nine with the three locals so perfect. A little bit of site but at the end everything comes in. A group of Frenchmen arrives later and occupies the tents, At night it rains and snows a little and it is better in the barracks. Most of us sleep well and do not get cold. To be at 4,400 meters has merit that give us dinner to 90 people a la carte and more than enough. The guides and porters sleep in a shop with enough holes. We get up like every day soon. The lodge cook has not yet opened. The breakfast is very good. We start at the beginning by a track. We go in shadow down the throat. Until we come to a big bridge and go to the other side the road becomes a bit heavy After a while we took a road through the mountain without cars. From the road we see the track where buses and cars pass unprotected and scary. This piece of route is shared by the Annapuna route. We are going down and those who have started the Annapurna treeking are going up. By the way, they are enough.

SAMDO LLEGADA ETAPA 8

We arrived at the pretty village of Samdo and stayed at the Yak Hotel. To me it is the town that I liked the most. There is a wide plain used as high altitude fields. In the town there is a beloved character. I made some nice pictures. Watching on Youtube some videos of other treks to the Manaslu of years ago I see it appear.

SAMA Salida y llegada etapa 7

We take advantage of the day we are in Sama to climb the Manaslu base camp. It's a very good day A good breakfast and going. Achut the guide is delayed doing some management and we go with the porters Santosh Ra and Reman Ra who have never climbed to this base camp. The idea is to go to the base camp but we take a wrong turn and arrive at the shore of Lake Birendra. It is an area with great views of the glaciers and top of Manaslu. We want to pass the lake through the drainage area but it is not possible. Achut, who has returned, tries to find a crossing point but, as it is not possible, we have to return almost to the village and take the path that leads to the base camp. This tour of more to the lake will then be invoiced to some of the group that will desist from reaching the base camp. We make the upload to it slowly. When gaining height the views are extended. Now we see below the Birendra lake of a turquoise color. As we get closer to the cb we have to go making some stops that we take to take pictures. Santosh and Reman offer to take the backpack but we told them that today is their day of rest and that today we have to work for us. They laugh. We arrived at the field and enjoyed its views for a while. In the area there are two expeditions trying the top. The absence of garbage in the area is striking. We went down without problems and arrived to snack on something. In the afternoon a part of the group leaves to walk to acclimatise better and I go through the town "chatting" and seeing the work of the neighbors and playing with the children.

    Salud i muntanya conpany.

    Hola,

I have followed this trail  View more
