Itinerary description
Maybe a new group favorite. I rank it as "moderate" for this group, and the technical difficulty as "low".
Starts at the parking lot by the small church in Malveira da Serra. Trail goes across a small creek, then winds over some switchbacks through housing. Eventually goes through town, then on the left, it peels off onto some dirt road / trails.
Then it's forested & shady for maybe a few miles. It goes up to a hilltop with a fire observation tower and rocky pinnacle. Great views from up here of the atlantic coast, Guincho, Cascais, Malveira da Serra. There is an optional loop here at the hilltop that I forgot to do, so it's not on the route.
After that, you descend for a bit, and it cuts across some open hillsides with views down to Guincho & Cascais. There is a bit where it goes off on the left onto a disused dirt road, which turns into single track, then a steeply descending gully that does not even look like trail at all, but it takes you back to dirt road.
There is some more forest / hillside hiking. Finally, it descends a very steep paved road (but with no car traffic), then a short bit of single-track, then back to the initial creek crossing.
Threre are other pinnacles nearby. Wonder if it's possible to make a much more challenging hike that connects them all, with lots of extra up & down, and extra miles.
