Itinerary description
Bureto Mountain (1763m) has a length of about 14-15 km and stretches from gap of Suha to the Albanian-Greek state border. It is mainly composed of limestone formations. The ridge of the mountain is wide, almost flat and filled with karst forms and reliefs, especially with funnels, water absorption holes, pits, wells, etc. A marked tectonic break runs along this slope, which has caused the emergence of characteristic springs, as well as the mineral springs of Glina, which are located nearby. The deep rocks and rocky landscapes are also special. We start the hike from a big village Libohova, the street to go there is paved so you can go also with small car. The path may have been maintained many years ago, when the military installations near the summit were still serviced. Now, the path is moderately difficult to make out at times, steep and the trail is moderately exposed for long stretches. Good orientation is very important as missing the trail may get you very quickly into very uncomfortable terrain so do not go without GPS device because the trail is not marked. Once you reach the ridge, it is easier. It is still more than 250 Meter elevation gain to the main summit, but there is no exposure and you can choose your way. The views from the summit, especially on a cold but beautiful sunny day, were nothing less than astounding, across the Drinos Valley with Gjirokaster towards Kendervices, Cajupi, Nemercke, Smolikas and Mourgana and Korfu Island.
