Itinerary description
Exceptionally beautiful trail with a variety of natural and historical points of interest.
I stayed in Königstein and took a train to Dresden at the end. The walking surface is mostly forest trail and asphalt. This section includes several steep ups and downs, including steps. There are restaurants and shops in Königstein and Pirna, but not much along the way.
From Königstein, the trail goes up to the fortress. After descending, you pass through some fields and small villages. Around km 8, the trail starts ascending again towards Rauenstein, the final sandstone formation of the trail. There is a restaurant on top. You descend all the way to the river Elbe, then climb again to Naundorf. The rest of the way to Pirna, you follow the river on a relatively flat path. There's a variety of accommodations and transport options available in Pirna.
