Itinerary description
Exceptionally beautiful trail with a variety of natural and historical points of interest.
I stayed the night in Ostrau and Hinterhersmdorf, both of which are served by bus as well. The walking surface is, for the most part, a wide forest trail or dirt road, with a little bit of sand. There is some tree-fall along this section, several trees to step over or under. This section includes steep ups and downs, including steps and ladders. There are one or two cafés and restaurants along the way and a shop in Hinterhersmdorf.
From my accomodation in Ostrau, I reached the trailhead in a few km. The trail leads through the forest around the Schrammstein sandstone formation with some cool views. I briefly got off trail after km 5, between waypoint 6 and 7 - just follow the signs. The trail continues with a long and steep descent to the river Kirnitzsch. After the tram stop and restaurant at Lichtenheiner Wass, you climb up to the beautiful view at Kuhstall. Following a short but steep descent, the trail goes through a large tree-fall area to Raumicht. There is a bus stop there, or you can continue a few km to Hinterhermsdorf.
